Chart topper Mike McClellan will sing rain, hail or shine to support Everglades Historic House & Gardens on Saturday, April 11.
Manager of the National Trust property Scott Pollock said McClellan, a 1970s radio star, had generously offered to perform to raise funds for the heritage listed property on the edge of the Jamison Valley at Leura.
“We’re extremely thankful to Mike, as this is quite a coup to have such an Australian icon performing to raise money for us,” he said.
Right up till the mid `80s, he continued to grow his list of McClellan Classics with the likes of The One I Love and Rock’n Roll Lady.
He also hosted the successful ABC program Country Road. Within a year it became Mike McClellan’s Country Music and he continued to present the show for a further three years, touring extensively behind the national profile it sustained for him.
It is 40 years since Song and Danceman was a national hit and voted Song of The Year by the music industry so it is perhaps not surprising that McClellan should re-interpret his signature song for his latest album Dancing in the Rain, which includes a wonderfully reflective acoustic version of his famous hit.
He has returned to the road and will continue, as he remarked recently, “for as long as I can still deliver”.
“I love performing, always have, and many have said I’m singing better than ever. I guess I’m lucky. The voice is still good and there will be more albums.
“Many years ago I called an album Until The Song Is Done. It still isn’t.”
Because Everglades already has a full calendar of events, the show will be hosted at the Waldorf Leura Gardens B&B Resort which, like Everglades, is home to an historic Paul Sorensen-designed garden.
Mike McClellan will perform on Saturday, April 11. Bookings and details: www.ticketbooth.com.au or phone Scott on (02) 4784 1938 (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday).
